*The Mangler 2* is a sequel adaptation of Stephen King's original story *The Mangler*, but it completely abandons the laundry-based horror setting of the source material, opting instead for a campus tech-thriller approach. Director Michael Hamilton-Wright attempts to blend the "technophobia" of the late 1990s with the digital age anxieties of the post-millennium era, but the execution falls short. The film's CGI effects and sets are clearly constrained by a low budget, with the visual representation of the virus invasion appearing crude and lacking the physical, oppressive mechanical texture of the original. The performances are mediocre; Chelsea Fields plays the lead, but her character is thinly developed and lacks depth. As a Stephen King adaptation, this film completely discards the original's metaphors about machines and human desire, devolving into a second-rate teen horror movie.
