The film stays true to Stephen King's core theme of "crime must be paid for," but focuses more on psychological horror than supernatural elements. As a relatively obscure adaptation of King's work, *1922* stands out in Netflix's horror lineup, proving that low-budget, atmosphere-driven narrative horror still has strong vitality. However, it lacks the black humor and detailed rural life descriptions that are characteristic of King's original novel.

In the original novel, Wilfred dies of a heart attack after writing a confession in prison. The film changes this to him committing suicide during a hallucination on the farm, which is more visually striking but weakens the sense of fate that he was "consumed by sin."
The film downplays the psychological transformation of the son, Henry. In the original novel, the details of his mental breakdown following his mother's death are more extensive, including the tragic ending of his suicide in a hotel, which has been simplified in the film.
